Overview:
PRODUCT OVERVIEW
P.O Stiches is a bespoke tailoring brand that creates custom-fitted garments for clients who value quality craftsmanship and personalized service. The brand had built a strong offline reputation but struggled to translate that white-glove experience to their digital storefront. Their online ordering platform required customers to submit detailed body measurements through a confusing manual form, which created significant friction in the purchase journey. I redesigned the entire custom order flow into an intuitive step-by-step measurement wizard that maintained the personalized nature of bespoke tailoring while dramatically improving the digital experience.
GOALS
Reduce cart abandonment during the measurement submission process. The existing single-page form overwhelmed customers with too many fields at once, causing them to drop off before completing their orders.
Decrease customer service inquiries related to sizing and measurements. The brand was fielding constant questions about how to take measurements correctly and which fields were required, draining operational resources.
Ship a production-ready solution within one week. The business needed a fast turnaround to capture an upcoming seasonal sales period, so speed to market was critical.
Maintain the premium brand perception throughout the digital experience. Any redesign needed to reflect the craftsmanship and attention to detail that P.O Stiches was known for in their physical stores.
Create a scalable design system for future product expansions. The solution needed to work not just for this initial problem but serve as a foundation for additional product lines and customization options.
MY ROLE
Responsibilities. As the lead product designer, I owned the entire design process from research through final handoff. I conducted competitive analysis, mapped user flows, created wireframes and high-fidelity prototypes in Figma, and delivered production-ready specs to the engineering team. Because of the tight timeline, I also made critical scope and prioritization decisions about which features would ship in the first version versus what could wait for future iterations.
Collaboration. I worked closely with the founder and head of operations to understand the specific measurement data the tailors needed to create garments. I partnered with a front-end developer throughout the week to validate technical feasibility as I designed, ensuring we wouldn't hit any blockers during implementation. I also coordinated with the customer service lead to understand the most common points of confusion in the existing flow, which directly informed my design decisions.
USER RESEARCH
Complex measurement terminology confused non-expert users. Customers didn't understand terms like "sleeve pitch" or "back rise" and had no reference point for how to measure themselves accurately at home.
Single-page forms created decision paralysis. When shown 15 to 20 measurement fields all at once, users felt overwhelmed and unsure where to start, often abandoning the process entirely.
Mobile users struggled with the existing layout. Nearly 60% of traffic came from mobile devices, but the form was designed desktop-first with cramped input fields and tiny text that made data entry frustrating.
Trust was a major barrier for first-time online tailoring customers. Users expressed anxiety about spending money on custom clothing without the confidence that their measurements would be interpreted correctly.
DESIGN PROCESS
I started by mapping every friction point in the existing measurement form, documenting where users were getting stuck and which fields generated the most customer service questions. I then benchmarked successful digital tailoring experiences from brands like Indochino and M Tailor, as well as checkout wizards from e-commerce leaders like Shopify and Warby Parker, to understand best practices for progressive disclosure and guided input flows. Instead of creating throwaway sketches, I went straight into Figma and built a modular three-step wizard that chunked the measurement inputs into logical groups: basic sizing, detailed measurements, and style preferences. I designed clear visual tooltips and measurement guides for each field, using simple diagrams to show exactly where and how to measure. I built the components in a way that could scale across different garment types, anticipating future product additions. By day five, I had a high-fidelity interactive prototype that demonstrated the full flow including transition animations and validation states. I walked through the prototype with the founder and operations lead, incorporated their feedback on measurement terminology, and delivered final production specs to engineering by the end of the week.
KEY DESIGN DECISIONS
Breaking the form into three distinct steps with clear progress indicators. Instead of showing all measurement fields on one overwhelming page, I created a wizard that revealed information progressively: step one covered basic body measurements, step two focused on fit preferences, and step three handled garment-specific customizations. This reduced cognitive load while maintaining all the data the tailors needed.
Adding inline visual measurement guides instead of linking to external help documentation. I designed simple human body diagrams that appeared directly next to each input field, showing exactly where to place the measuring tape. This eliminated the need for users to click away to separate help pages, keeping them focused on completing the form.
Leveraging a premium UI kit to maximize time spent on user flow optimization. Given the one-week deadline, I chose to adapt an existing e-commerce component library rather than designing buttons, inputs, and form states from scratch. This let me focus entirely on solving the measurement flow problem instead of burning time on foundational UI work.
Implementing smart defaults based on initial inputs. Once a user entered their basic measurements in step one, I pre-populated suggested values for related fields in step two based on standard body proportions. Users could still adjust these values, but it dramatically reduced the amount of manual input required.

TIMELINE
This project ran for one week from initial audit to final design handoff.
THE PROJECT
High cart abandonment from form complexity. The existing single-page measurement form presented users with 18 different input fields all at once, with minimal guidance on how to fill them out correctly. This created massive cognitive overload, especially for first-time customers who weren't familiar with tailoring terminology.
Operational burden from incomplete or incorrect submissions. The customer service team was spending hours each week emailing customers to clarify measurements or request missing information, which delayed order fulfillment and frustrated buyers who expected a seamless online experience.
Mobile usability was virtually non-existent. The responsive behavior of the original form simply stacked fields vertically without optimizing for touch targets or thumb-friendly layouts, making it nearly impossible to complete an order on a phone despite most traffic coming from mobile devices.
No clear value communication during the customization process. Users didn't understand why they were being asked for so many measurements or how this data would translate into a better-fitting garment, which eroded trust in the process.
Delivered production-ready designs on time and under budget. I shipped a complete high-fidelity prototype with interaction specs within the one-week deadline, allowing engineering to begin implementation immediately without waiting for additional design clarification.
Reduced cart abandonment by 40% in the first month post-launch. The new step-by-step wizard with visual guides made it dramatically easier for customers to complete their measurements, directly translating into more completed orders.
Cut customer service inquiries about measurements by more than half. By providing clear inline guidance and measurement diagrams, we eliminated the majority of confusion that previously required human intervention to resolve.
Improved mobile conversion rates by 35%. Optimizing the flow for mobile-first interaction patterns meant that the 60% of users browsing on phones could now actually complete purchases instead of bouncing.
Established a scalable design system for future product lines. The modular wizard components I created could be easily adapted for different garment types, setting up the brand to expand their custom offerings without redesigning from scratch each time.
Positioned the brand as a leader in digital tailoring experiences. The streamlined flow became a competitive differentiator, with customers specifically calling out how easy it was to order custom clothing compared to other online tailors.
KEY METRICS
40% reduction in checkout abandonment. By transforming the overwhelming single-page form into a guided three-step wizard, significantly fewer users dropped off during the measurement submission process.
50%+ decrease in measurement-related support tickets. Inline visual guides and tooltips answered user questions in context, eliminating the need for most customers to reach out for help.
35% increase in mobile conversion rate. Optimizing the flow for mobile devices unlocked a huge segment of traffic that was previously unable to complete purchases on their phones.
WHERE WE ARE
The redesigned measurement wizard shipped on schedule and immediately improved both conversion metrics and operational efficiency. The brand saw an uptick in repeat purchases as customers gained confidence in the digital ordering process, and the customer service team was able to redirect their time from answering basic measurement questions to higher-value activities like style consultation. The modular design system I created has since been adapted for two additional product categories, validating the scalability of the approach.
FUTURE IMPROVEMENTS
Integrate camera-based body scanning for automated measurements. Adding smartphone camera functionality to capture body dimensions automatically would remove manual measurement entry entirely and further reduce friction.
Build a saved measurement profile system for repeat customers. Allow users to store their measurements after the first purchase so returning customers can skip the wizard and reorder with one click.
Add social proof during the measurement process. Show testimonials or photos from customers with similar body types to build trust and demonstrate fit accuracy throughout the flow.
Implement real-time fabric visualization. Let users preview how different fabric choices and customizations will look on a digital avatar built from their measurements before finalizing the order.
Create an onboarding video series for first-time customers. Develop short tutorial videos showing proper measuring techniques to further reduce errors and build confidence in the self-measurement process.
Add AI-powered measurement validation. Build logic that flags potentially incorrect measurements based on body proportion ratios and prompts users to double-check before submitting.
Design a referral flow into the post-purchase experience. Since the new wizard makes ordering so much easier, leverage satisfied customers to bring in new buyers through an incentivized referral program built directly into the order confirmation flow.
